After your tour of the auction rooms and cattle market what better way than to head for the most rustic and ‘locale’ of the three restaurants in the village. It seems all the farmers, buyers and sellers head for lunch here being lower priced and right next door to the market.A great venue to sample basic fare lunch with the cattle folk…..for a 16 euros "formule" menu you get access to the salad buffet as much as you can eat which has a large selection but like the equally varied dessert buffet it pays to get in early as farmers have an eye for value and huge appetities! Mains are typically a range of charolais beef steaks that seem to get cooked the same way regardless of how you request it, but generally good quality, very tasty and nicely cooked. There's also an a la carte selection available.Worth it for the value alone and for the experience, if you fancy something a bit more up market try one of the other two, but we thought it fun and satisfying.

We traveled here with French friends for the day to see the Wednesday Charolais Cattle Market. First young cattle are auctioned to be grown and then cattle are auctioned that are ready for food production. Two of us felt badly for the cattle in thé 2nd auction so went to Le Mur d'Argent and drank red house wine while our friends watched the auction. Then they joined us next door for lunch at Le Mur d'Argent. It is a jumpin' joint on Wednesdays, but a large restaurant so no one waits long for a table. We drank house wine and ordered les entrecôtes, served with simple frites, and pot au feu. The beef was tender and the serving sizes vary, so you can order the cut and size you'd like. There is also a buffet of salads and starters and one of desserts, if you have room for 3 courses. The beef + frites were enough for us! The serving staff is a friendly group, the meals are served promptly and the restaurant is full of locals and families who come to watch the auction and meet friends, Charolais buyers and sellers; the cattlemen there in their navy coats with the sticks they use to direct the penned Charolais at the market. A very interesting day for Canadians.

Nous avons apprécié notre passage. Bonne ambiance, bon service.
