I came across L’art et la Maniere on the Michelin Guide (it’s Bib Gourmand rated) and one of the rare few restaurants open on a Monday night for dinner in Lyon. The three-course menu at 32 euros is varied enough to suit different preferences. For the starter, I had the Cannelloni stuffed with Foie Gras served on a chilled gelatin. The Foie Gras was one of the creamiest I had, and was complemented well by the thinly wrapped Cannelloni. A very beautiful starter! For the mains, I had the Entrecote Steak served with a side of mashed potatoes and truffle cream. Unfortunately, my medium rare steak came out more rare and subsequently, medium after re-cooking it. Many other patrons ordered the steak and did not seem to have a similar problem (perhaps because of the English language barrier?), but nonetheless, I still enjoyed it after with the wine pairing. The steak was a good size. Truffle cream was also enjoyable. For the dessert, I had the mascarpone-stuff Apricot in a sea of apricot – it was rather flat and slightly too sweet, but my boyfriend had the chocolate paired with berries and that was divine! The chocolate was rich yet not overbearing and the berries a good mix of sweet and sour – perfect.Their service deserves a good mention. On top of the Amuse Bouche, they gave an additional smaller-sized starter – a rouget barbet with potato slices (replicating scales!). They also took the time to translate the French menu into English for us (checking whenever they are terms they are unsure of). The service made up for my steak having to be re-done.Overall, the food’s a good value for money! I had a relaxed dinner and enjoyed the intimate setting in the rustic bistro.
