Après avoir découvert qu'un restaurant répertorié comme 100% végétarien sur Happy Cow avait depuis fermé ses portes, affamé et triste à La Rochelle, en France, la dame de l'Info Tourisme nous a recommandé Le Soleil Brille pour tout le monde comme étant prêt à accueillir. mes besoins d'un repas végétarien et sans produits laitiers ainsi que mes intolérances à divers ingrédients courants. Ayant connu de nombreuses offres désastreuses dans des restaurants non végétariens dans le passé, j'ai été ÉNORMEment impressionné par le chef très sympathique et attentif qui a pris grand soin de découvrir ce que je pouvais et ne pouvais pas manger et m'a donné la meilleure salade composée avec des noix et un un truc de céréales frites, toutes joliment présentées, que j'ai jamais mangées en dehors d'un restaurant végétarien. Assiette immense et prix très raisonnable. J'ai été très touché par l'attention sincère et les efforts déployés pour me nourrir, même s'il ne se présentait pas comme un service de restauration pour les végétariens ou les « régimes spéciaux » de l'extérieur. Le propriétaire a déclaré qu'il avait l'habitude de servir des gens du monde entier (le restaurant a remporté de nombreux prix décernés par une organisation de routards) et qu'il avait donc beaucoup d'expérience dans la restauration pour différents besoins alimentaires. Mon partenaire, hélas, non végétarien, a également beaucoup apprécié son repas.
I came here on the basis of positive TripAdvisor recommendations, but how disappointed I was! We had booked a table, but when we arrived 5 mins late (we got lost) we were given a small bench at the back next to the toilet. We asked to move but were told abruptly there were no other tables. After 10 minutes of eyeballing people queuing for the loo I got up to leave, at which point the offer was made to move our table outside. The waitresses were friendly but the owner basically glared at us all evening. The food was reasonably good and well priced, but we were either ignored or made to feel uncomfortable the entire evening.Would I recommend? No. Would I come back? No.
I ate here twice on my trip to La Rochelle in June. On the first day, I was lucky to get the only remaining available seat up at the counter – it gets so busy, even early in the day, that you really need to make a reservation. My lunch of galette forestière and a side salad was truly delicious, and next day, while out cycling on the Ile de Ré, I rang and booked for that evening. The entire menu looked wonderful, but due to a food intolerance, I was sadly restricted in what I could eat, so I chose a salad, and I must say it was one of the best I’ve ever had, a wonderful combination of flavours and very satisfying. As well as terrific food, the place has a lovely atmosphere, with friendly, helpful staff, thoughtful, quirky décor and a clientele that is not just made up of tourists but also locals, always a good sign. Can't wait to return!
Fantastic find .amazing food .very busy .great staff .struggled a bit with our not so good french .but the owner was really helpful .
Warm welcome even we had not booked, which is recommended, and a delicious plat de jour of fish layered with vegetables, followed by a wonderful tiramisu which was a generous portion. A great place if you want something local, fresh and inexpensive.
Was traveling alone and this place did not disappoint. Sat at the counter, was able to chat with the chefs (in French and English) as I watched them cook. Food is delicious, healthy and with such a hearty home-cooked feel. Great salads, vegetable tarts, and the baked desserts are to die for. Ate there 3 times. Love it.
This is a wonderful little restaurant tucked in a side street close to the marche. Friendly people, simple food, and delicious. They usually have 2 daily options plus their standard basic menu. I recommend their specials. Reservations suggested during the summer.
