Le Pot d'Etain - Chauffry

We stopped on the off-chance on Sunday lunch time for a meal and were royally looked after. We were offered a table on the terrace overlooking the attractive garden. Two menus were offered - one at €29 and one at €59. The €29 menu was only for plat + starter or plat + dessert, although the extra course could be had for €11 which we chose. They were able to easily accommodate my vegetarian wife. I had Feuillete d'asperges avec hollondaise; canon de vollailles avec sauce forestiere; tiramisu accompanied by a bottle of Macon Lugny which together with apperatifs came to €125 for the two of us. Not cheap but well worth it. The restaurant is sadly only open on Saturday for lunch and dinner and Sunday lunch.

Excellent wine list but little under 35 euros.Food was mixed (E 29 menu). Risotto starter was good. One fish main good. One veal kidneys over cooked, should be at least pink. Vegetables poor. Potatoes cold and veg lasagne luke warm and tough. Both prepared well in advance.Cheese selection excellent.Would i return, probably yes due to lack of good establishments in this vicinity. Service was good.

We have been staying nearby and walking in the area. Chauffry was en route half way round and a good point to stop, especially as we'd been told it was good. Lucky we booked because by 12.30 the place was full. We had 4 courses (plus a 'trou Normand', amuses bouches, and cheese) for 59€ each. Not cheap but superb and in a delightful dining room with an attentive and charming waiter. Unfortunately the restaurant is open only at the weekends so we shan't get the chance to go again and sample its delights. Quel dommage!!
