Viens savourer les trésors culinaires à L'abbaye. Situé à 1 Place Saint Pierre, 86250 Charroux, France, nos portes sont ouvertes aujourd'hui, prêtes à saluer pour une expérience gastronomique exceptionnelle. Avec une note de 3.5 et 6 des commentaires élogieux, nous sommes une visite incontournable pour les amateurs de cuisine.
Alors imaginez que vous traversez la France d'est en ouest en passant par La Creuse pour aller vers l'atlantique. Vous y êtes ? Pas de frontières dans le coin.Des paysages champêtres,des églises,des villages.Une place,une ruine d'abbaye des parasols rouges.Allez !parfait pour une pause midi ! Et là c'est le drame : le serveur ne parle que Anglais ( l'autre aussi d'ailleurs) et ne comprends RIEN.Il ne comprend pas le mot diabolo,va donc pour un sirop,les sandwichs sont des carrés anglais (plutôt bons),il n'a pas l'idée de débarrasser la table avant de prendre notre commande.Nos voisins sont servis sans couverts et nous n'avons ni eau ni serviette.Le voisin qui me voit partir aux toilettes me souhaite bonne chance et m'implore de ne pas toucher la serviette.L' addition ? (ils ne comprennent tjs pas)Aaaah ! the biiill ! Bon les gars on a bien ri mais maintenant embauchez une petite serveuse locale, au moins elle apprendra l'anglais !
A la recherche d'un endroit pour déjeuner simplement après la visite de l'abbaye nous nous sommes tout naturellement dirigées vers le café de l'abbaye tout proche. Passée la surprise d'avoir affaire à un serveur encore très peu à l'aise avec la langue française, nous avons mangé un fish and chips délicieux, accompagné d'un verre de vin et d'un café pour à peine plus de 10 euros chacune. La prochaine fois que je passe dans le coin j'essaierai l'english breakfast, pour un dépaysement amusant et sympathique au sud de la Vienne.
We stopped for a breakfast. A little late but that wasn't a problem to Kim the chef who cooked us a very nice, all English fry up. Perfectly cooked. Two double yolked eggs as well. Mugs of tea were replenished for free. Nice touch.Served by Mike who has a dry sense of humour which we both enjoyed.Will recommend and return.
We have eaten here before on previous trips, so we knew the food would be tasty but the greeting somewhat lacking.Upon finding a table the owner came out to take our order with no menu and proceeded to stand and shrug which we took to mean 'what would you like.'We ordered sandwiches - choice of ham, cheese or ham & cheese and drinks. While chatting about whether we were going to be following this up with cake and coffee we were presented with the bill without being asked if there was anything else we wanted. We therefore decided to pay and go elsewhere.Much nicer places in Confolens with much better choice and service.
L'endroit est très vieillot, mais la cuisine simple et très bonne (et faite maison).Pour moins de 15 euros : entrée, plat, dessert, café
Whilst travelling across country from our house in the Vendee to see a friend in Chateau Garnier we stopped at this cafe for lunch. We asked for the ‘plats du jour’ but both plats were sold out (it was 1 o’clock). We were offered ham, egg and potatoes which we accepted. The English waitress was very apologetic. We ordered a carafe of wine and it came to the table with water and a glass each. I asked the English waiter (manager?) for extra glasses for the water. He said “You’re not French, then!” I asked him what he meant and he said “They drink it all out of the same glass over here.” I said that that wasn’t my experience, and he became confrontational. I avoided an argument as this was the last thing I wanted on my 64th birthday! When we left the restaurant we tipped and thanked the waitress. The manager was working behind the bar. He said “I wouldn’t bother coming back”. I was left wondering why, with so many other lovely restaurants around why we would even bother!
Que puis-je dire de cette abbaye, à part qu'elle doit figurer sur votre liste de choses à faire. J'ai passé deux vacances bouche bée devant sa beauté.
