We had been really looking forward to our dinner at La Fourchette, since it was highly recommended on TA, as well as a local in the area. The atmosphere is really nice, and I have to say that the staff could not have been more friendly/attentive. Having said this, the food was a disappointment. I had a chilled tomato soup for a starter---I can see what they were going for, but every component of the soup was just TOO MUCH. The tomato base was SO intense and tart, and the cream that should have helped cut that tartness, was infused with some kind of very strong flavor that did not complement the soup. I had to have my boyfriend finish it, because I felt bad leaving it, but I just did not enjoy it. My scallops were ok, but nothing special. The real issue was the apricot tarte tatin that my boyfriend ordered for dessert. It wasn't just "not good", it was BAD. It tasted like vinegar, almost like the fruit had spoiled. We have traveled a lot and had a lot of tarte tatins in our time--there was just something not right about it. We politely asked the server if it was supposed to taste like this, very sour and of vinegar? Obviously we knew it should not taste like this, but were just trying to politely call their attention to a problem with the food. Without hesitation, she just kind of shrugged and said yes, without looking into it at all. We were pretty disappointed and would not go back.
