Innovative, imaginative food and excellent staff not to mention the affable owner who runs a relaxed fun place. Great wines. This is somewhere very different - sadly it's not open all year round. Great atmosphere.

Eclectic furniture and decor. Bilingual servers are knowledgable, helpful, and fun. Good range of foods & beverages on menu, and many locally produced. Has improved its offering year on year. Not cheap, but you pay for quality, if that's what you desire.

We visited once about 10 yrs ago but was indifferent. This week we went on a Sunday for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. It was so good we came back for dinner a few days later. The staff are pleasant and full of energy but it is the food that steals the spotlight. The owner has over 30 years of experience in the food industry and it shows. It has evolved over time into a wonderful but very laid back establishment. The food is locally sourced as much as possible and has a touch of Asian influence. You know your at the beach but such a nice change from the standard beach fare. A must try if you find yourself at racou. We hope to visit again and chapeau to the chef and owner!!!8

If you are lucky enough to spend some quality beach time in Le Racou by Argeles-Sur-Mer, you need to have lunch at Le Menge Ecaille. It is a very quaint place next to the beach. It is very relaxing, and the food is delicious. The owner is usually right there, and makes you feel right at home. I loved everything I ate from the razorfish to the seared tuna.

We had lunch here twice during a recent stay. It's fair to say, my husband and I both love fish and were not disappointed here. Both meals were absolutely fantastic. All the fish is fresh and the menu changes frequently. Our starters included clams, anchovies with orange and tapenade, a cured tuna, which looked like iberico ham, and mackerel. Mains were a red mullet, an amazing sea bass, sword fish and a cuttle-fish risotto. Wine was fab too. Staff were accommodating of our 2 children who both wolfed a catalan sausage and chips. The decor is quirky (there's the odd thing from a hair dresser's circa 1970 attached to a seat!) and a there's a DJ in the evenings. Best two meals of our holiday.

My husband is the fish eater, I'm a little dubious but willing to try. We went with our 8 yr old daughter. They were very busy but the waiter went through the chalkboard menu ( which was too much for my limited gcse French!) in good English and in depth. I had mussels for starter and my husband had red tuna which was like smoked salmon. Both were wonderful. We both had cuttlefish and tiger prawns for main. It was beautifully presented and stuffed with something gorgeous. They made my daughter chicken and chips which went down well. Best meal we have had here. It's more fine dining than pub grub. If you want to stuff yourself cheaply then go somewhere else but for great fish beautifully cooked this is the place. It cost 92 euros for 2 starters and 3 mains and drinks which I didn't think was bad considering we paid 70 euros for an awful meal on Angeles plage. Service was quick with the food but the bill was slow in coming. Only downside was the lobsters. There were 3 in a tank and our daughter named them. Unfortunately someone ordered them and we left with a sobbing child!!
