The young couple running this restaurant are very earnest, the menu is creative and interesting, the prices are very reasonable, but the timing is poor. We arrived at 7:40, ordered a 3-course menu which was preceded by an amuse bouche. We had finished our mains at about 9;30, waited about an hour for cheese plates (requiring no preparation), then nearly a half hour after finishing for the check. We left just after 11:00 and two tables that arrived before us were still there. The hostess explains all of the complicated dishes in great detail, and some were excellent, others had so many things going on that it was hard to identify what we were eating. Both cheese plates were identical - 3 cheeses and no choices offered. The two owners, who are the only staff, are trying so hard we wanted to feel better about our experience, but 3.5 hours for a 3-course meal in a small room with no view left us disappointed. But it was very good value for 111 Euros, including a bottle of wine.
My partner and I visited last August (2016) to celebrate my birthday, we had heard that you had to book well in advance for a Saturday evening table which was organised via e mail.The restaurant is very cosy and the owners are Very Welcoming and Helpful, explaining the menu, wine and choices fully. The food was gorgeous and the subtleties of the various flavours was outstanding.We thoroughly enjoyed all courses and the Champagne is the best we have ever tasted, I cannot praise the restaurant enough.............superb.The owners of the restaurant are superb hosts, the service and overall experience is Fantastic and we will love visiting again when in Argeles.Many Thanks and Appreciation
We had a wonderful dinner experience at Bartavelle. We were a party of 3 dining on a Friday. The restaurant is located in the heart of small Argeles town.In a small room (16 seats) cosy and modern we were warmly welcomed by the couple of young owners.Starting with a few local green olives and olive paste already delicious.Then choosing in the short menu list with dishes names full of plays on words. And what a eating, surely not a joke.Squid tagliatelle with black pudding puree and spinach. Followed by a chicken breast with snails cream. And finishing with a cooked pear with chocolate.Wine list reasonably priced and showing local good quality producers.Dishes are sophisticated made from a lot of different ingredients nicely presented separately in the plates. You can eat separately or mix them, and the mixes seriously work.What a dinner experience ! Everything was perfect. We all loved it.This place gives real, plain and profound pleasureCan't recommend more but make sure you book your table because gourmet customers know the place.
Fantastic combination of service and memorable food. Stephanie was lovely, making this a very personal visit with her friendly service and illuminating commentary on each of the beautifully presented and interesting, delicious dishes. I really appreciated the effort she and the chef made to accommodate my food allergy. We loved everything about this place and will be back next year with friends!
A truly fantastic experience. Superb food presented in a most imaginative way both visually and in terms of the incredible blends of flavours and ingredients. Each dish is presented and explained individually at the table. The wine list is very good representing the best producers in the region.The hardest thing is choosing which dish to go for for each course! Without doubt the very best restaurant in Argeles.
We had lunch on a Saturday. We were (warmly) received by the owner and pastry chef Stephanie. She gave us a detailed explanation of the menu and advice over the wine.The choice was excellent!The starters: the avocado and the foie gras with certain twists (need to try them!).The main dishes: the fish (the catch of the day) and rabbit. The desserts, the BEST! Reserve yourself to enjoy them! We had the apple one and of course the chocolate dessert. They were really good!!!!!!!Here you can find a mix of flavours with subtile accents to remark the quality of the products. Everything VERY well done. The dishes have a structure. They are, themselves, a piece of art.Highly recommended!
The couple who run this tiny restaurant pour their heart and soul into every element of the dining experience. The food is very modern in style, and is clearly the product of a chef with great intelligence and wit. There are references to classic dishes - for example, a superbly reinterpreted merguez - and dishes designed to capture a mood or sensation - such as a dessert with an 'ambre solaire on the beach' concept. Every dish is lovingly described by the hostess, and you can see the chef working with quiet precision in the kitchen. Despite achieving a standard of cuisine that many of the region's grandest restaurants would be proud to serve, this restaurant is absolutely unpretentious; the décor is simple to the extreme and there is none of the usual restaurant fuss.Overall, a wonderful dining experience, and I wish this talented couple every success for the future.
