Friday night in Paris, looking for live music and good food. We found La Table d'Emile on the Internet, made a broken French/English reservation, and took the half-hour Metro trip out to Montreuil to try our luck. And what luck! Our host, the effusive and charming Robert, took time to explain the all-French (always a good sign) menu in his best English. We worked it out between us. Our choices of shared Chacuterie, Veal tongue in mustard sauce, and the "fish of the moment" proved spot on. Such quintessentially French dishes, along with some excellent wines, and a cheese plate to follow, were fantastic in quality and value. Music from a three piece all-girl Jazz group "La Vie en Rose" had the full house of locals singing and clapping to two sets of French and English classics. "Imagine" was especially poignant given recent history in Paris. The space is a visual delight, staff engaging and friendly, and the whole place is alive with love and soul. Our night ended with wonderful conversation with Robert's beautiful wife and her friend. It will be an enduring memory and we'll be back when next in Paris.
