excellent eating here yesterday evening! we sat on the terrace, which is a small courtyard outside the hotel. the couples that run it are very friendly and speak very good English! the chef worked in a great restaurant in london (sketch) before!. eating was incredible and service fast (although we were one of two tables because of covid). genuinely good authentic menu that is done well. amazing array or cheese including very local! good wein options that are very expensive.

never in england! fantastic eating and great service by friendly staff who made all efforts with us and all in French menu. we have exactly what we thought we'd get what's always a result for me. but the table beside us. had a very big, stinking dog hanging on the carpet and dropping. the couple went to feed the dog from the table during all 3 courses, it was absolutely disgusting. for a very nice restaurant and an evening that cost us around €120, it should never be allowed to spoil the occasion that was our high-time day.

meal excellent taste and quality of food fabulous, after not sharing enough menus to go, did not ask if we had a drink on the arrival was too long between cursor and main course was cold. dessert was incredible when only the entire service was. well, how could not mistake the taste of eating. much luck hope it improves.

the personal does not speak well English and they were a bit rude to our group when we went to the restaurant. we tried to communicate our best, but they were clearly frustrated with us. eating was good portioning and decent. it was cheap and extremely quiet. the selection of the cheese plate was phenomenal. the desserts were also delicious!

The Menu du Jour here is a delight. Always a pleasant surprise even though the choice is very limited. However, the A la carte menu is very comprehensive and contains many beautiful dishes. The service us immaculate and friendly and some staff members speak English...if you have any translation queries. Highly recommend it. Check the says it's open though.

We have eaten in the Al-carte restaurant at the front of Le Pelican great food but can be expensive. Recently we tried the plate of the day you sit in a room at the back of the Le Pelican fantastic value.. really nice food the room is fine all the French go there, so can you!

We visited Le Pelican for my husbands birthday while visiting the area on holiday. The food was good, not great, with delicious starters and puddings. I had Guinea fowl with mushroom risotto main which was pretty bland and at the same time too rich. My...partner had steak which was tasty but chewy. As we were driving, we opted to skip the traditional aperatif, which seems to have disappointed the maitre de whom I overheard joking with a French party about how we'd ordered badoit instead if an aperatif...Seems they are not welcoming of non-traditionalists! This spoiled what was meant to be a lovely birthday dinner. There are many lovely restaurants in nearby Saumur which I would recommend.

We've been visiting the area for over ten years now and after a family recommendation we've just finished an excellent meal at Le Pelican, Vernantes. The service is excellent, with a relaxed but attentive feel. The food is exceptional and incredible value for money, with...three courses and a glass of wine and coffee coming to a little over €40 per head, including a well deserved tip. I had the scallops, filet de bouef and the creme brûlée and it was really very, very good. Vernantes is often a pass through for people heading somewhere else but Le Pelican makes it worth a closer culinary look!!!
