We went here our first night in France visiting family had a wonderful meal out on the veranda at 9pm. The restaurant was hopping, we had reservations and were seated right away. Our host was a regular and we were greeted with a wave and a big smile, clearly this is a neighborhood favorite! While we did not have pizza I have to report on the awesome brick pizza oven - check out the pictures- I want one! We started with a first course of tuna with tomatoes and lettuce which I had a quick taste, it was fresh and simple, very nice. I had the evenings special if a split fried sardine dish that is popular in the Mediterranean favors were good although the sardines were a bit over cooked. Our entrees were: spaghetti bolognese - pasta was standard fare and cooked to the correct texture, the sauce was spot on in texture, very good flavor and you could taste the various ingredients and it was very satisfying, a generous portion was served. Tagliatelle carbonara - while I did not taste this dish it looked very good, served with an egg on top which is traditional in some areas of Italy. Our host reported that it was ok but the texture was somewhat pasty which he reported to the chef. For my dish I selected the chefs choice paste trio- Chef chose a rigatoni served with a slightly spicy tomato and eggplant sauce, very good favors, a bright tasting and culinarily interesting sauce, very enjoyable. A penne with traditional Alfredo sauce with shaved Parmesan on top, good but the sauce was perhaps a little heavy, more towards American style rather than traditional Italian style - this is perhaps a personal preference but I much prefer the traditional style. The final of the trio was a tagliatelle served in a pesto sauce - this was my favorite (although the rigatoni was a close second) the sauce was superb! All the favors were bright, zesty and delicious, the texture was perfect, and I would definitely have this one again. Service was very good, quick and courteous but not intrusive (which is usual in France I've found as opposed to US typical where service is traditionally too interested in how you are doing to the point of intrusiveness, here they allow you to enjoy your time as you choose) with the just right level of attention to our desires. Prices were very reasonable, with a bottle of wine it was about 33e a person. While this restaurant is not a 5 star OMG kind of place, it's also not meant to be one, it's a great neighborhood family dinner table enjoy the meal and the company kind of place and in this context they shine!
