The square was busy even though it was off the chaos of the main street. So we returned to the restaurant last night and had a lovely time. Our waitress, Alex told us they were out of the Spanish white I wanted but recommended the Horjelus which was a real gift. A lot like the luscious, crisp, gooseberry and citrus flavours of New Zealand Sauvignon blanc it was so good, we ordered a bottle. And it was cheaper than what we were going for. Merci Alex. She told us where to find it too! The ham plate was loaded with saucisson, ribbons of jambon sec,and a pile of a different ham, all prettily presented on stark black slate. The vegetarian tapas were a cooling yellow melon gazpacho, black Olive tapenade, a triangle of tortilla on a layer of red pepper coulis, and an aubergine caviar that my carnivore Breton husband fought me for. The bread was local, crusty, whole wheat and said Breton (normally prefers pain de campagne ) asked Alex where it could be found. We also had a hot tapa, a tartine of slivered duck, well seasoned, sauteed. Very good evening, with well behaved kids playing in the square, no electronic toys in sight! And no tantrums. Life is good.
