It won't be to everyone's tastes particularly those of you looking for a hearty meal. But if you have a good command of French or Google translate handy then you should enjoy reading the descriptive menu as a prelude to the real thing. The €27 set menu represents great value. Food, flavours and service were excellent. And if you still find fault with those then there's always the picturesque view especially at sunset.

Finally a good restaurant in the centre of Saintes with views of the beautiful river Charente. The views are so good because this restaurant is actually located on the river. It is a newly built Peniche - dutch barge, which looks a bit forbidding moored alongside the Arch of Germanicus but once inside, you will find a bright modern restaurant which is fairly buzzing during lunch time service. Besides a full a la carte menu there is a Formule fixe changed daily and good value, if not the cheapest, at 18euros for 3 courses or 15 euros for 2, starter main, or main dessert. All the fish dishes we have tried there have been good, very fresh and nicely cooked and they do good burgers too. In the evening, the main deck is a bar only so all dining on the lower deck, therefore worth booking ahead to ensure you get a table which looks out to the river rather than the few that face into the wall. In summer there are a few tables set up outside at the back of the upper deck. Service from the young team of servers is prompt, efficient and cheerful.

The menu is not very large but what we choosed was really well prepared. I really enjoy the duck and the way ot was cooked. The location is very nice and the view on the germanicus arch from the boat is very nice. The service was really good and very careful with my daughter.I will come back!

Worst Asian food in Brisbane and that's saying a lot unfortunately__You have to go to Sunnybank for good Chinese or Korean.

Ate here while stopping in Saintes on a return trip from Spain to UK. We were very impressed by the location and the food. The staff were really helpful, the young waiter helping us translate the menu.We had course plate de nuit and a very...coiffable bottle of red wine. The food was typically French and nicely presented. Only disappointment was my husband's paté which came in mushroom soup. Over all a very enjoyable meal.

What a great night this if you are ever in Saintes. The staff were nice, friendly and helpful, the food was very good indeed and with good draft beers to choose from as well this was a great night. As the evening got darker the...atmosphere and ambience on the boat took on a new life which was very pleasing. We will definitely go again and would recommend a visit anytime.

choice Le Batia as venue for my birthday lunch with husband after recommendation by our local chef Wow what a delight. Sadly weather meant we were seated inside, but ambience design very light with good spacing between tables. Staff very friendly, speed of...service perfectly timed. My husband chose a menu du jour I went for the menu so we could taste each others dishes. Every dish was stunning, good portion size for lunch beautifully prepared especially the fish dishes. We will certainly be returning for another lunch during the summer.
