We went here for a meal on the last night of our holiday last Saturday. We had such a gorgeous meal and the staff were so friendly with our children we were really sorry we'd left it until or last night to go there. If we had gone earlier in our holiday we definitely would have gone back there more than once. The chicken for the children was the best quality we had anywhere. Our own meals were stunning. I had the monkfish and it was beautiful. It was the most expensive meal of our holiday but also the best by far. The desserts were also chocolatey, rich and delicious. I'd highly recommend this restaurant.
First observations: Gorgeous old building with some open air and conservatory style additions. Friendly, attentive service. Fairly small, but varied menu. For our lunch we were offered the special starter of sardines and their wine of the day. We went for the wine, a lovely white Burgundy, which perfectly complimented my starter of home smoke salmon salad. Mrs Express went for the Foie Gras. Both were excellent with a great small salad, with assorted beets and micro herbs on the side, and the Foe Gras was also excellent. 5 stars each. My main of monkfish wrapped in bacon was very good, nice balance of fresh and salty with a nice tower of roasted summer veg and a lovely champagne sauce. But the fried risotto 'squares' didn't taste of much other than fried breadcrumbs and were a disappointment. 4 stars. Mrs E's beef fillet was superb though. Beautifully flavoured beef, amazing beef jus, lovely baby roast potatoes and a generous smeer of pureed root veg. An absolute triumph worth of a much more expensive restaurant. Deserts were very good; a perfectly 'tart' ie not too sweet, lemon meringue 'pie' with lemon sorbet was really tasty and the ice cream in a sugar bowl with cream, chocolate sauce and fruit also lovely.One small criticism was the bread served with the starters was stale, and not even a home baked roll that I would have expected in such a good restaurant.All in all, for a little over 100 EUR (we only had the bottle of wine to drink) and tap water, we both felt this a very fair price for the standard of food and setting.

This is quite a classy restaurant in a not-so-classy area. The service and the ambiance are good, the food well cooked and nicely presented, and reasonable value for money. However, one of the house specialities is Smoked Confit of Duck - they do their own smoking - and for us it was a flavour too far, and it lingered long after the meal itself was over.Also, be careful as you enter or exit the main building as the doorway is rather less than 5ft 10ins high!!
This is a charming restaurant in an old "Bourine". The present owners, Kathleen & David have maintained much of the old charme, as well as providing delicious food. David is an inspired chef, always producing new dishes which are of Michelin standard. As well as traditional Vendean dishes a further wide menu is offered catering for all tastes.Ingredients are sourced locally & in season. Making a choice can be difficult, it is all so tempting! There is also a comprehensive wine list.You can be sure of a warm welcome from Kathleen, who speaks excellent English.This is our first restaurant of choice in the area.
We had a lovely evening here and the food was first class. It was very well presented. The service was very good and the waitress was able to explain the menu's in English very fluently with English menu's for those of us who don't speak French. The setting and atmosphere is perfect for a lovely evening. I would highly recommend a visit.

What a wonderful way to end our first trip to the Vendée. We visited as a table of two couples and all agreed that this restaurant was absolutely sublime. We ate indoors in the very quaint traditional dining room but noticed an outdoor area which looked to be a great choice for a warmer evening.We tried the menu 'gourmand' at 36 euro per person and were not disappointed. With choices including terrine de foie gras, monkfish and veal chops it was certainly good value for money. The food was absolutely faultless and was so beautifully and thoughtfully presented on the plate and explained by the staff. The wine was very good and reasonably priced as well. Would definitely go back and would recommend to anyone visiting the area looking for a sumptuous meal.
