Le Citronnier - Ribérac

Le Citronnier. Run by an English couple, there was a bit of confusion about whether they were expecting our small dog. Completely unnecessary and poorly handled – typical English nonsense. The food was OK but not exceptional. We shared a bottle of Mirabelle Du Chateau de Jaubertie an excellent Semillon Sauvignon blend.A very hot day touching 40° continued into a hot sweltering evening and the restaurant, although we ate outside in the shaded courtyard, was far too warm for a comfortable dinner.

We arrived on a busy lunchtime. We ate here a few years ago and were pleasantly surprised. This time it just seemed a bit tired. The food was OK, but nothing to write home about. Having had such a good time last time we were a little disappointed

I haven't been to The Citronnier for about 4 years now - can't understand why as the food is just great! Perhaps the only criticism would be the overall décor - needs to be brought into the 21st Century. It's just drab - but hey, its all about the food I guess. It would probably appeal to more people though if some subtle changes were made i.e. nice white linen table cloths etc.

Le Citronnier has to be one of the best restaurants in the area, in fact for miles and miles. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The service second to none. The only down side is the décor. It really needs crisp white tables cloths and contemporary chairs to make it a true destination and somewhere to get dressed up to dine. It could really be quite something with a bit of décor tweaking.

My girlfriend and I heard good things about this restaurant, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. Fantastic food, and incredible attention to detail, in every aspect of the dining experience. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a fine dining experience, with a warm, friendly atmosphere. Must remember to pre book to avoid disappointment. Would return in a heartbeat!!

The weather wasnt great and since i missed out last time i was visiting, my freinds and i went to Le citronnier for dinner, i can now see why its their favourite restaurant, (mine too now). We started with an 'Amuse bouche' of humus and pate, which i followed with home smoked duck breast ( absolutely beautiful), then an apple sorbet with brandy as a palate cleanser before the most exquisitely cooked fish i have ever eaten.The salmon with pan fried scallops and prawns was beutiful and so full of flavour, honestly amazing! The fillet steak and duck that my freinds had looked and, by all accounts were just as good. The strawberry pavlova was a wonderful finale. The service was spot on and very freindly and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. It really was a toroughly great evening. After the usual arguement with my freinds they finally agreed i could pay ( no one was certain except me, that it was my turn), and it was very reasonable (cheap for the quality and quantity really). We had such a lovely night that we went back for lunch a couple of days later after looking round the market, it was again excellent, we had the menu du midi and there was a good variety of choices, mant places offer a set menu or plat du jour but here we had the choice of 3 starters and five main courses, followed by cheese or dessert. The swordfish was out of this world!!! We managed to have a chat with the head chef and he was really pleasant too. All this came in at about €16 a head, Bargain, no wonder it was busy. Needless to say i am really looking forward to our next visit.

Interesting menu, slightly pretentious place, though nothing bad, just not as extremely wonderful as it thinks itself to be! Price excessive for what's delivered.

My fiancé and I had already ear markers to visit this place on our return to Riberac this year and it certainly didn't disappoint!Given the fact we showed up without a reservation (recommend if more than 2 of you wish to eat) we were shown to a table. For a Saturday night it was busy but as the restaurant isn't huge it felt homely and relaxed. There was a separate room for private dining (appeared to seat 6). We were friendly greeted by our host who presented us with an amuse bouche of salmon which certainly wetted our appetite!The menu was substantial and there were many specials including venison ragout. We decided to go for the €28 three course menu.As my fiancé was driving so we went with a recommended 50cl red from Bergerac which was perfect for our mains of Parmesan crusted sea bream and braised beef cheeks both plates were fantastic.To follow we chose the trio of min deserts which consisted of Creme brûlée, strawberry pavlova, and either chocolate cake or apple tart.We left extremely satisfied and full to the brim I would highly advise you book before visiting.We will definitely return!
