Restaurant la Cascade - Pralognan-la-Vanoise

Initially when we arrived the owner was a bit reluctant as were with two children and baby. This may not seem like a problem for most but in this case the restaurant is quite small. But in the end it worked out great. We had a great time and got well acquainted with the owner. No over to the food. Very simple but great quality. Has to be one of the best steaks I have had in a while. Chargrilled over a wooden fire with home made fries. This is a no fuss restaurant with delicious food. Very cosy atmosphere...and by the way the Mondeuse (typical red wine from Savoie) was so good we had a second bottle. We'll definitely be back next year.

We came late to town and looked for a good dinner before a five day hiking, scheduled to start next morning. All restaurants didn't serve food at that hour and we were directed to this restaurant with hopes.We arrived and welcomed by a tired owner who agreed to fire up the kitchen for us.The steaks we ordered were perfect and so were the side dishes and the wine.A big thumb up.

Disappointing after previous years high standard. The steak quality not as high as before, chips soggy, suspect sauce from a packet.

If you have been out and about in Pralognan walking in the mountains all day then this is the place to get a good steak with plenty of chips on the side.We both had the standard steaks, one with Roquefort sauce and one with Pepper sauce, both of which were a great size and tasted lovely. The only bad thing was my fault, me being English and knowing the French steak cooking guide we asked for well done steaks, they were very well done, I'd ask for medium to well if you don't want it cooked to death.The chips were truly AMAZING and I ate the lot. They were served in one big bowl for 2 people, my wife must of had a handful where as in finished the rest (about 6 more handfuls). They were lovely.

Everyone should ensure they visit La Cascade when staying in Pralognan - we have for many years and never regretted it once. They serve the best steaks with several other dishes if required. The owners are attentive and the chips are to die for.!It has a cosy atmosphere with a lovely log fire in winter.

Two visits here during our stay. On both occasions the four of us shared two cote de boeufs, large cuts of steak cooked in the restaurant's open fire and served sliced and partly on the bone.The first one was fabulous, and really good value at 44 euro (shared between two). The atmosphere and service was great - some great Franglais banter with the owner - most welcoming.We went back for a second visit which was not quite as good as the first, but this was only really due to the meat not being quite as good in terms of quality compared to the first. Still a very nice place overall - would certainly go back.

wonderful food - steaks cooked to perfection over a wood fire, lots of delicious home made fries, good wine and coffee - and topped off with excellent chocolate ice cream, all served with patience and good humour by La Patronne. Voted "the very best restaurant " by our three boys (and their parents) in this gem of a resort.

We enjoyed delicious steak and duck which we cooked ourselves on a hot stone. It was served with fresh chips and salad. The chips were so good that we asked for more. Imagine our surprise when the waitress first refused, then brought some more but charged 12 € for them! The restaurant seemed to be somewhat understaffed - only one waitress (the manageress?) who also had to cook steaks for a table of 8 over the wood fire. We had hoped to order a second bottle of wine, but were unable to attract her attention before finishing our meal.
