La Tour De Pizz - Nontron

We ate here with 2 families. Service from the owner was superb and the food was even better. Lovely pizza's and a marvelous "magret de canard"!

Having driven past this little restaurant for a year or more, friends who eat there regularly lured me in for a pizza. Well, I won't just drive by now that I know the fantastic pizza, gourmet burgers, ambience, and service inside! Add to all of that, the interior is actually rather spacious (it is, literally, in a little tower. From outside, you would expect it to be a walk-up counter without room for a table.) In reality, it feels spacious AND has a wall of windows overlooking the wooded valley with the village of Nontron as a backdrop. Stunning. On a nice night, there is outside deck seating with this beautiful view, as well. Ambience, five stars; Friendly efficient service, five stars; Quality and quantity of the pizza, five stars. Tour De Pizz is a tour de force. I'll be back!

We ate here a lot during our two weeks in Nontron. The pizza was incredible, the salads are delicious, and the duck was to die for. Her crème brulee was one of my favorites of the trip, but the other desserts were just as good. I didn't have anything that I didn't like, and she also make an amazing homemade hot sauce.

We were staying close by with another couple. Visited La Tour De Pizz 3 times over seven nights. Food is delicious and plentiful. The welcome and friendliness of the staff and owner is the best we've had in France over many years. Nothing was too much trouble and they took time out to talk to us.Can't recommend this place high enough. As you might guess, it's popular, so book and enjoy.

I've eaten pizza everywhere in France, and on the whole, it's been a pretty disappointing experience. I'm from the US where pizza is a big deal and you can get lots of types (good and bad), so I feel like I'm kind of an aficionado. Humble too. Anyway, the pizza at this place has a nice, puffy/chewy crust, quality ingredients, delicious sauce (I would put it in a glass and drink it!) and they're HUGE. A small size is like any other restaurants' large size. And last but not least, it's served with smile after smile after smile. The owner is so kind and concerned about her patrons being happy, and the head waitress is so sweet, I could easily see her being a kindergarten teacher favored by every kid who ever sat in her class. Really, it's worth going to and even worth grabbing takeout pizzas. We have a pizza place closer to our house, but we make the extra drive to the Tour de Pizz just for their stuff. They also have pretty good ribs (although the portion is a bit small for this fat American. haha) and their burgers aren't bad either. That's about all we've eaten there, even though their menu offers much more. It's the kind of place you want to have a pizza in, with the sports and flags hanging everywhere. BTW, if the owner of the place reads this, you might want to take that one down that's above your door...the southern rebel flag of the US. Lots of people see that as a racist thing. :)
