We were recommended this restaurant by a contact in nearby Montsegur. It doesn't disappoint. Chef Marie-Josée Bru created fine dishes that were a joy to discover. I'd go tomorrow if it wasn't a thousand miles away.
A rather unprepossessing sign by the roadside and as one approaches the "house" for that is what it looks like, one realises that there are far too many cars in the parking lot to make sense.We went there for a celebratory lunch and it proved to be so. The food is absolutely great , the amuse bouche exquisite , all beautifully presented. For me the main attraction was the pigeon with forest mushrooms ( slightly too rich but delicious all the same). My wife had venison which was pronounced excellent .The wine list is pretty good too and not too overpriced. The style of cooking is haut cuisine but there are flashes of modernity as well.We will certainly add this to our list of restaurants to go again.
Restaurant in the countryside near Nalzen, there are ads in the main road. We were three people for dinner, and we had 2 "Menu du terroir" (paté de campagne/cassoulette/fromage; 25 €), 1 "Coté de Veau", 1 additional dessert (gratinée aux framboises), 1 glass of wine and 3 coffee/tisanes. In total 31.5 €/pp. Very nice place, with nice and efficient service. The presentation of the table and dishes (including a starter) was excellent, and food was very good in general. Excellent the starter, meat, paté and gratinée. The only not (fully) satisfactory dish was the cassoulette. It was closed the previous days, may be this could be the reason.
When one travels in France, you get totally spoiled by the food. My two week trip on southern France did NOT disappoint. This restaurant was one that stood out. The setting was simple but the service was exquisite. It was my last night in France so I just HAD to order cassoulet one-more-time. It was excellent. The meal started out with something so light and refreshing....to cleanse our palette we guessed. I knew my entree would fill me up so that's all I ordered. My 3 dinner companions went with prix fixe and raved. The salads were beautiful and their entrees were also excellent. Their desserts? It's France, need you ask?
Easy to think initially that this might be a snack bar located several metres from the main road west of Lavelanet- but in fact this a quality restaurant with nice décor and good choice of local quality meals.Friendly attentive service and willing to accommodate any special food or allergy requests.
For many years I have driven past the sign for this restaurant. The sign along with many along the French roads sometimes are just ignored. Ignore this one and you will miss out on a really outstanding restaurant. The service was excellent and the whole experience was a high quality meal. I started with the foie gras plate.
