We went to La Gargotte on recommendation from a review in the Daily Telegraph. We arrived and there was a small queue so thought this was a good sign. The owner was very friendly and the menu was explained to us very well by his colleague. We decided on a main course and dessert. When the main course arrived it was warm not hot and the plates were cold, not a great start but it was tasty. We then had to wait nearly an hour for the dessert but no explanation was given as to the reason for the delay. My partner's dessert was an almond cake which was burning hot and very dry in texture with white chocolate ice cream and mine was the sable which was fine but not great. Overall maybe they had a bad night, it was a Saturday but they should have been prepared for the amount of custom that they had. The staff were friendly but that did not make up for the fact of no explanation was given as to why the long wait for the dessert.

This restaurant is off of the normal tourist track, making it a unique find. The restaurant is easily accessible off of the Croix-Paquet metro station, so you can reach it from pretty much anywhere in Lyon. The menu was a 3 course meal for 28 euros, or 2 courses for 25 euros. I would recommend the full three course meal. There were four different dishes that were choices for each of the three courses. The food is very innovative and ambitious, executed well. The menu is scribbled in French, but the owner was more than willing to translate it for us. The atmosphere was quaint and cozy. The service was exceptional, definitely the best I've ever received in a restaurant. The owner, Ivan, served as the waiter for the 6 parties that were in the restaurant at the time. He shook every guest's hand as they entered the restaurant. After the meal, he personally saw each group out, even walking us down the street as he told us about the history of the building and his career. A very nice and cool guy. I felt incredibly valued as a customer and I would absolutely return.

Not well-known to tourists since it's not near where tourists tend to go eat dinner, we found this restaurant by chance and it blew us away. The meal is three courses for around 30€ in a nice cozy restaurant. Make sure to come hungry because you won't want to leave anything on your plate. The owner is very friendly and came to talk to us throughout the meal, he shared with us his history as a master chef and working with Paul Bocuse. Along with the amazing food, the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff really made the experience unforgettable. If it is available still- try the pork with mushrooms stewed in wine. Delicious!

The food was great, the best I've had in France. Staff is very friendly, the owner came to introduce himself which we found very nice. The restaurant is very charming and cozy (the space once was an old bakery). The food is reasonable priced, though the drinks were not... It really is a special place of the touristy track: there were only locals when we were there. Would definately recommend this place or fo back here!

the place was recommended by a friend, and my partner and i spent a lovely evening. great food, creative and tasty, and not the usual Lyonnaise specialities they offer in most places - relaxed yet convivial ambience, friendly staff, and all that reasonably priced. Given all the restaurant choices in Lyon, this is a special place, we will be back for sure!

My partner and I were taken to this restaurant a few years ago by friends. We had the best meal and wine with complimentary hors d'oeuvres - the duck macaroons were incredible! By chance we came across this restaurant again a year later when walking through the streets and were so excited we found it again! The food here is fantastic and the restaurant owner is incredibly friendly.
