We were on our way to our home in Burgundy and we were hungry. We stopped at Le Cheval Blanc because there was nowhere else available. How fortuitous! Please, do not think that I am writing one my Michelin Star reviews; this is a simple, honest, local restaurant. We had a starter, which meant that we served ourselves from a starter buffet,then, a main course, followed by a cheese course, and then a dessert, this included a quarter of a litre of wine each - all for €10.50. There were no espumas, no spherification and no 24 hour cooked food; what there was was simple, honest food that I would have been hard put to create at home for the same cost. Not one thing that we ate was unacceptable, in fact everything was good simple food.It is, of course important to judge this restaurant in context. Here, we are talking about a €10.50 4-course meal. Would it have been better to have just one course, for the same money? Honestly, no. Would I be able to criticise the food - of course one can be critical, but not at this price.Furthermore, the staff and the other customers were an absolute joy.I will end by writing that, one and a half hours later we left, our stomachs were a little bit too full and, when the bill arrived, we were almost embarrassed to pay so very little.
