We went today to this lovely restaurant, which specialises in Perigoudian cuisine using local produce... which is not a great place to start for two lifelong vegetarians, but Madame was wonderful. We had cep omlette and salad, which was very well prepared and certainly worth the few steps away from the less attentive tourist cafes in the square.

I walked past and noticed the sign saying saying English spoken. There were a lot of people inside so it looked popular. Went in was greeted by a very nice lady who showed me to my table. My lunch was fantastic and I enjoyed it so much I went back next day for lunch again.

We came across this little restaurant as we walked up from the main car park to the abbey. It's situated on what loosely might be called the main road - but not much traffic. The restaurant is clean & airy with a relaxed atmosphere. The food was reasonably priced and extremely delicious. As this is the Dordogne, there was the expected confit & magret but other choices were available [I've now forgotten]. Just 2 women were running the place, who were very welcoming. Most people head for the main square, where there are a dew other restaurants but we reckoned by retracing our steps [all of a minute] we had found the best place in Cadouin. Oh and the loos were impeccable.

During our stay in the Dordogne, we made a visit to Cadouin to see the Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our plan was also to have lunch and how lucky for us that Un Air de Campagne was open as it was a Monday and others were closed. As it was a chilly day the cassoulet appealed to us and it was wonderful ... with local wine ... and delicious fruit tarts for dessert. What a surprise to learn that our hostess, Augusta, was not only the owner and but also the chef . . . and everything was homemade! She has much to be proud of! We would most definitely go again if we have the opportunity to return to the Dordogne.

We stayed various days in Cadouin and the Perigord and tried quite a few restaurants. To our big surprise (the menu is nearly everywhere the same so that you can compare easily), we got the best duck tenderloin (tender and juicy) and trout here in this little restaurant! Everything was handmade (grateful for something different than pommes frites)... Our only suggestion: warmer light to have a more compfy atmosphere. Thanks for the great meal!
