Restaurant La Gartempe - La Croix-sur-Gartempe

We've been here many times now, and have loved our meals every time. It's a bit in the back of beyond but well worth the journey. If this restaurant was in Le Dorat or Bellac (the closest towns) it would be packed out every night.Rachel is a lovely host, and can't do enough for her clients. Nothing is too much trouble.I'm vegetarian which, trust me, isn't the easiest thing to be in France, unless you want to eat omelettes every time you go out for a meal. La Gartempe ALWAYS has vegetarian options available on the menu, and they don't mind if you swap from Menu du Jour to a la carte. Rachel even asks if anyone is vegetarian when you call to book.I honestly can't recommend this place enough.

We took parents there. Our first visit (wont be the last). Good quality, good service, good price. What's not to love?!

On an evening walk through quiet country lanes, our friends determinedly led us to this unspoilt village, their local restaurant serving utterly delicious, un-fussy food.

Lovely restaurant run by Rachel and Greg. For non French speakers like ourselves it is ideal but whatever language you may speak, you will find excellent food and service. There is free off-road parking and you will find a small bar as you enter. If having a meal, you then walk through to your table - do poke your head through the serving hatch and say hello to Greg. the cook. Varied and interesting menu at very reasonable prices, a la carte or set. Cards not accepted. The restaurant and bar also visited by the French Both Rachel and Greg enjoy chattering to their customers. Difficult to think of anything not to like. Do visit.

Small well run restaurant in la croix sur gartempe,English owners. We ordered the "plat de jour"which was served quickly and was excellent quality and reasonably priced,would recommend.

Rachel and Greg catered and hosted our wedding lunch for all our family and friends. The food and service was amazing, especially as they were looking after 45 people. My husband and I would strongly recommend Restaurant La Gartempe to anyone looking for quality food and drinks at a good price.

A little gem hidden away close to Bellac! We've passed by on a number of occasions and finally dropped in for dinner last night. Amazing, very family friendly and serving an excellent menu that changes every 3 weeks. Very reasonably priced, fast, efficient service and great food cooked by a talented chef. Frequented regularly by local expats - we will certainly make more visits.

La Gartempe Bar Restaurant in in a little hamlet about 10-12 kms from Le Dorat.Whilst there is a front entrance, you are better taking advantage of the free off-street parking at the rear of the restaurant and entering from the terrace.Apart from the restaurant, this establishment offers a bar facility for the local inhabitants. The bar is connected but separate from the ding room.We have eaten here on 5 previous occasions, a couple of times at lunch time, a couple of times in the evening with just the two of us and another time with another couple. We have enjoyed the experience each time.There is always a menu du jour and well as other forrmules and of course an al a carte menu. The wine list, whilst not extensive, does offer reasonably priced, good examples, of most French wine regions.Over the time we have eaten from the menu du jour, formules and the al a carte and have always liked what has been served.On the last occasion I just ordered the menu du jour which comprised an entrée of escargot (which were fabulous), a main of fruits du mer gratinée (not a large dish, but more than enough), legumes, a dessert (or cheese) and coffee - all for only 15 euros.We accompanied that with a vin rouge from Bergerac.
