O Bistrot - Gourdon

You can eat well here. Good salads. The omelette with truffle was very nice. Friendly people. Prices are correct.

Walked past the restaurant and thought looked nice and people on terrace. We went up the steps, I made eye contact with the only waitress, she was talking to a couple. I motioned to table on terrace for two which was not set but none others were. We sat we sat, lady came in, table set for her, coffee served, couple came in, table set, order taken, three members of staff ignored us and ignored us and ignored us..... So up we got and left... There was quite a titter as we walked out. Anyway, much nicer place just around the corner. Just so sad these days

A return lunch visit on our arrival in Gourdon; seated on terrace, waitress took a while to bring menus and since we did not want aperitifs we were without drinks until she took our order. We indicated that we were ready to order and the waitress said she would return to take the order, but this took a quite honestly ridiculous amount of time. A table of 4 people who arrived after us, at a dirty table, had the table cleared, cleaned, re-set and their order taken before us (by a different waitress) - I spoke to her and indicated my frustration and a short while later the waitress took our order. We had Salade Perigourdines and a glass of rose each. The food when it arrived, was very nice, as I expected - but the whole ordering issue marred the experience - even in France you expect to have an order taken within 50 minutes! We did not order coffees and left the exact amount of the bill on the table and left. Needless to say, this was our first day in the town and during the 2 weeks we have been here we have not been back - we did intend to visit again in an evening, but we have voted with our feet! I hasten to say, I speak pretty fluent French, so it wasn't an 'anti English' vibe....just a shame really - management need to sort out the staff - there is a lot of choice in the town and people won't go back if they have experiences like this.

This was our second visit to this restaurant and both times the food and service have been excellent. We had 3 courses and wine and couldn't fault anything.

After visiting a beautiful exposition in the nearby church des Cordeliers we decided to take our lunch nearby. This turned out well. The lady at the entrance was very friendly in welcoming us. We took the lunch, 3 courses, of that day which was tasteful, well prepared and worth the 14 euro. Half of bottle of Pecharmant, more or less a regional wine, added to the good impression!Very near the cité.

I have eaten at this place 4 times in the last 10 days. It is by far the best eatery in Gourdon. It has a big sunny terrace, immaculate & comfortable decor, clean & very well appointed toilets and a fantastic menu. You really can't beat them for value for money.Their menus du jour are exceptional for the price. The meat they serve is the best I have eaten anywhere in the world. The owners and their staff are friendly, welcoming and professional.If you have a poor meal here, like Maree B, you are probably looking for a thin well done minute steak - this is not the place for you. If you do not have the language skills to order a nasty well done steak then go somewhere else and leave this exceptional establishment alone.Frankly if, again like Maree B, you end up with a steak not quite to your liking then I am amazed you can't find any positives to lift your rating above 1 star: the beautiful surroundings; the clean & comfortable facilities the; quite astoundingly good chips! To name but a few.Finally, having made it clear I hope how great I think this place is, I have just one gripe about review sites such as this one, and that is the people really do need to be more responsible when rating places as they do unfortunately have to some extent, people's livelihoods in their hands

We ate here last week, as we had eaten here before, in 2014. Then the food was good. This time I was unlucky, ordered a steak, it was disgusting. My fries were floating in blood. That would put anyone off. I hunted in vain for a bit of meat, but the majority of the steak was fat!!. For what they charge, we will never eat here again, and nor will I advise my friends to eat here.....I did ask for a well done steak, and yes, I am aware they eat their steaks very very rare. But, this was cold and totally raw in the middle. I dont think I will ever look at a steak again. We ended up eating in La Vigan, a nearby village, for the remainder of our stay.

I have been to this restaurant quite a few times and it's become a firm favourite. The owner, sources his meat personally and it shows. The beef is truly exceptional, flavoursome and tender. My wife had " Onglet de Veau" and neither of us could believe how beautifully unctuous it was, with a sauce of great depth and subtlety. Probably not a place for someone wanting their meat "well done" , as the Fench just don't understand it, and vegetarians will want to find another place too but for us carnivores it's pretty much paradise.
