Interesting historic restaurant, good location and excellent food featuring Normandy specialities - well worth a visit.

Had lunch here today 28/06/2017 Very disappointing the steak was excellent taste but very gristly, chips were soft soggy and very thin it was an insult to call them chips To be fair the burgers and pizzas looked good but that was looking at other peoples tables the waitress did not seem that interested in what was wanted and the order had to be repeated more than twice We went here based on other peoples recommendation and found that the Bistro did not live up to them.

The engagingly warm chef, and presumably owner, greeted us from his kitchen - we later came to wonder how food for a packed restaurant could all have come from such a tiny space.I had, as I prefer to do whatever it is, the dish of the day which was so very tasty, and the other three in our party had equally tasty dishes, the seafood and black rice dish being the dish of the week.Diners sit crammed together in a very convivial atmosphere and we walked out enthusing about the place. Oh, good value too.

We ate here after a day at the Chateau and exploring the city as me and my family were staying fairly close in Lower Normandy. I ordered the plat with Parmentier de Canard and it was excellent. The service was very good as our waitress was patient with my French ( a fourth language is just too much to put in my head !) and the meal was served promptly and properly. Overall excellent food and service in a charming setting.

We had planned a day in the town, mooching and looking around the castle and I had already done some research (via Trip Advisor) on possible places for lunch. We did scope out a few - aided by some tips from the Office du Tourisme- but settle on this little spot afrer reading the tempting menu in the window (Menu Le Bistrot 19.99euro) and were really glad we did. Starters offered included oysters from Cancale (yes! oysters)! which looked fresh and inviting and quickly gobbled up by hubby. I had a little salad of Serrano ham which came with pickles and warm bread. We both chose the bavette for main but there was a wide choice including duck and a veggie option. The chips were fab and there was no need for a steak knife, the meat was delicious. After a bit of deliberation (lots of choice) we both went for the Ile flotantte framboise for dessert. I am usually a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kinda gal but I loved this and seriously wanted to lick my plate clean. Beatiful soft raspberry flavoured meringue in a pistachio sauce was amazing and very memorable. We had a little chat with the reassuringly rotund chef when we left and noted the incredibly small kitchen from which he was delivering such delights. He jokingly said "see you next month" and although the town is 90mins from our house in France, it's not a bad idea!

We went there with our baby last week. I think they didn't like that we were with our baby because they gave us the worst table even when we were alone in the restaurant. Once that we have sat, the owner say to us that it was not possible to lunch inside with the stroller, and if we want to lunch there, it must be at the terrace. We have been waiting for 15 minutes to be attended and it was to late to look for another restaurant so we accepted to be moved to the terrace ( I repeat: we were the only table occupied inside the restaurant.) The food itself was very very average, the wine options...(I said options?) The price expensive for this service...Not recommended
