Stopped in for lunch, loaded with locals and not much in the way of translation but we managed. The service was fine and the food was fresh. Contrary to some of the other reviews, we had no problems with the staff.

I spent 2 days in Fleurie, and this was our local bar. Evening drinks, and morning coffee were enjoyed, with the place really buzzing in the early and late evening, although much quieter for morning coffee, with the locals going in for their early alcohol. At all times I found the serving staff efficient , friendly and hard working. The proprietor also very friendly.I've not eaten here but suggest the menu is good value with local dishes, (eg Oeufs en Murette)and will certainly give it a try next visit. Everything a local village bar in Beaujolais area old be!

The waitress couldn't even manage to say 'bon appetit' when she literally threw the plates in front of us. I saw her smile to other costumers so she was able of it, well not to us. It felt like we did something totally wrong but I didn't understand what. I have never felt so bad after eating in a restaurant, they were THAT unfriendly. The food was OK though but I never wan't to go bac there.

The service at this cafe is the worst I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. An extremely unfriendly unhelpful young waitress who either can't stand tourists, or English people or both, eventually took our order after 20-30 minutes. It took an hour and a half to get a starter and a a main course to the table. We lost the will to wait for desert, or coffee, or even the bill, eventually just leaving the money on the table. Food was acceptable but avoid at all costs if you want to have any sense of being welcome or you are in any kind of a hurry.

When we are visiting friends in Beaujolais it has become a tradition that we always have a "light" lunch at the Cafe de Sport.I was concerned that there was a reference to the "Cafe" being closed, but there was another review albeit from some time ago ref the "Restauarant"We pitched up on Thursday 5 June and the terrace was full of locals with only one other english coupleWe have a tradition of always having the Beaujolais salad, a plate full of leaves croutons, lardons topped with a poached egg and great dressings. It only appears to be light in reality it is a full meal and is well recommended as is the warm goats cheese salad or the Terrine A great place off the square, serving local Fleurie and Beaujolaise wine, and a delightful place for lunch

This is a traditional French village restaurant offering high quality food and wine to locals and tourists. The friendly waitress greeted us politely and we took a table on the terrace, shaded from the sun by a large awning. There is a dining room inside but it was empty in the fine weather. We both started with a delicious home made terrine and then I had steak tartare. The waitress made sure that I understood that it would be served raw. It came to the table with the sauces and raw egg yolk separate so that I could mix and season it to my taste. My wife enjoyed the local speciality of coq au vin. We had a local wine, a Fleurie as we were in the village of that name, but we could have chosen from a wide range of wines from all the Beaujolais appellations and beyond. With aperitifs, desserts and coffees it was one of our more expensive lunches but was well worth the money for the quality of the ingredients, the skill of the cooking and the friendly efficient service. We could have chosen a simpler meal with cheaper wine, or none, for a much lower cost from the extensive menu. While we were eating, regular customers drifted in and out for meals, snacks, drinks or just a chat with the staff or other customers. It was the kind of pleasant relaxing experience that helps make a holiday in France so enjoyable. (The pink tone of my photographs is caused by the sunlight filtering through the awning, which was red and white if I remember correctly). We parked free in front of the restaurant. There were several empty spaces there. There is also more free parking beside the church on the other side of the crossroads.Trip advisor has reviews for a ‘Café des Sports’ and for a ‘Restaurant des Sports’ in Fleurie. Our printed bill was headed ‘Café des Sports’ but the credit card slip is for ‘Rest des Sports’, so I’m assuming that they are the same thing. The place we visited was next to the restaurant ‘La Bascule’ which is next to the ‘Crédit Agricole’ bank (which has a cash machine).Website: http://www.restaurantdessports.com/eng/index.php

The website of the village lists this (it doesn't have its own website) as serving simple and authentic food of the area in unpretentious surroundings. And that is exactly what you get. Simple, straightforward food, beautifully cooked and presented in the very informal, unpretentiousness surroundings of a cafe/bar.Don't know what the 'sports' is about in the title, unless it's about counting the number of bottles of various Beaujolais in the cabinets lining the wall.Don't go looking for Michelin-starred fine dining, you won't get it. But if you want good, local food you'll travel far to get better.
