We had just given a lift to a couple trying to find where the Sunday reception for the previous day's wedding was being held. ( there are 3 Riceys villages). Thus we were late to eat and spotted La Carboara at the bottom of the church square with " ouvert"!It was 1.30 and the board said " closed 1.30". He thought us mad to expect him closing with customers coming. Anyway we kept it simple for time's sake and had two ( very large) delicious toasted goats cheese salads which left no room for sweets. The Lef beer was like nectar and just the right temperature ( not cryogenic). We had two coffees at leisure as some others had arrived later than us and were munching away. The atmosphere was local and relaxed; the price was good at 38€ inc. 10% tip. We shall use it again if we are this way.

Welcome to the best pizza in this area. The little terrace is hidden behind the Essoyes church. Always full of happy people enjoying their meal. Service is quick and friendly. Pizza brule geule for the lovers of a spicy one! Wine is good. The village is worth a visit!

After driving the touristique champagne trail for an hour desperate to find somewhere to stop for a drink we were so pleased to find this - lunch was 30€ for a salad, a pasta dish and two drinks so not particularly cheap but the food was fresh and delicious. Only open until 1.30 for lunch.

We loved this place so much that we went back a second time, and had a equally pleasant lunch. There is a huge choice of pizza and other menu items. The friendly waiter made all the difference. Even though we showed up a bit late for our second time, the waiter was all smiles and jokes. I highly recommend for a casual lunch with a great view of the church. Easy parking as well.

We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday whilst driving through the village. There was literally nothing else open. We had a pizza which was good. One beer, one coke, two coffees and a pizza - €23.

Just had dinner there. The entrecôte is supposed to be a premium cut of beef. No way what I was served met those expectations. The serving sizes are decent for certain. The food was average. We did not eat their pizza, but saw a lot of people picking up pizzas. We ate outside so that was good. The restaurant was not busy. Service was average at best and at the conclusion nobody around for us to get their attention to pay our bill. We physically walked inside to find the chef behind the cash register and he promptly processed our bill. Regrettably, there aren't many choices in this small village.

Essoyes has the a museum called "L'Espace Renoir" which celebrates his relationship with the village and the fact that he had a studio there for many years. Which is not surprising as it is a very pretty village in a Champagne growing region in southern Champagne. And happily, if one is tired of regional French cuisine, or is recovering from the taste of andouillettes, the pizzas here will eradicate the horror of them completely. They are in fact, pretty good pizzas serves on a terrace over-looking the local Church and are a two minute stroll to the very pretty river Ource which runs through the village. They have passable wines, cold beer and pizza. They can even serve the local Champagne. A pizza lunch with Champagne in a village that was OK for Renoir is not bad at all - especially when it will set you back less than rock hard "sandwich au paté" and a glass of vinegar in Paris.
