There aren't many restaurants in the centre of Castillon la Bataille and unfortunately the outside seating of this is basically in the central car park. It wasn't busy when we were here but the service was somewhat on the slow side still the food when it arrived was worth the wait. I had a huge salad of the day but this was no mere pile of lettuce but full of chicken, cheese and a wide variety of vegetables. My husband had the steak, chips with veg and both of us were very satisfied. With half a litre of wine the bill came to 34 euros so no complaints there.

A modern clean cut restaurant, serving well cooked food at a sensible price. The staff gave a warm welcome, were attentive and helpful. The menu was not extensive, but there was sufficient choice for everyone. Portions were large enough to satisfy the biggest appetite. The food was well cooked and nicely presented, not fine dinning but excellent for a relaxing lunchWe dinned on a Saturday so the €13.50 Plate du Jour was not available. For a two course meal, starter and main we paid €16, plus a demi carafe of local wine at €6.50.We all liked this restaurant, and came out feeling satisfied, and that the quality of the food was to a high standard.

In need of a restaurant for lunch, we turned to TA for guidance and chose this place. And so glad we did. Excellent friendly service, responsible prices (they could easily increase by 15% but keep them low so all can afford to eat there). Wonderfully deep selection of reasonably priced wines (perfect for what you would expect from a bordelais restaurant!). Our main lunch courses of steak and rognon (kidney) were well prepared and in fact excellent. Will return. 2nd floor view of outside in April is quite pretty. Great location. Parking OK. To finish, super friendly service.

We had lunch on a Friday in late summer. Quick, attentive service from our waiter. No wait for our food. We had a brochette of duck and asked for it to be served medium-pink. And it was. We also had cotelette d'agneau and asked for it to be served the same way and it was. The duck was beautifully browned and crisp on the outside. A small salad dressed in a balsamic dressing on the side that was the perfect size. Both dishes came with frites. Frites are often undercooked, or overcooked or fatty. Not these. Almost the best part of the meal. Made from a floury potato, the frites were nicely brown, crisp and not swimming in oil. Perfect! We had two coffees and two small pichets of wine and the bill was E43.60 which is getting a bit steep for a lunch of this standard, we think. The terrasse outside was full by the time we arrived at 12.10pm but out waiter gave us a lovely table inside by a window.

Frequented by many locals, it is advisable to book. Only open for lunch. The daily specials have been great, red mullet one day and gigot of lamb another. Sit outside if you can!

We had a wonderful lunch with family yesterday, the ambience was great and attention to detail by the staff was excellent! Medaillon de veau avec frites et légumes was absolutely gorgeous and beautifully cooked, entrecôte and côtelettes d'agneau were equally well received. Plus a bottle of local wine..... perfect! We did not sample the puddings, albeit they looked divine, as we were on a pre-wedding wine tasting day. Wonderful alternative to the expensive St Emilion!! Can thoroughly recommend!
