I was taken here by a french family, I know, live in a village on the way to Lille. Being locals, they know the good places to eat & this is a regular. It's Flandres & for me it has to be moules. I have the child's portion, a mere kilo, served perfect & piping hot in the marmite, with a cream & garlic sauce. One doesn't so much order frites as buy into the concept of frites. A large plate arrives as a side dish & if you're not careful they slip some more on when you're not looking. Grab yourself your first mussel, tear off a half shell & now you have your implement to deal with the rest & spoon the juices. The empties pile up until you think you can't eat another one. But you do.Fanny had the fruits de mer, assorted platter & kept pressing morsels on me. I think I might have that next time. if I can resist the moules
