I am not sure how I found this restaurant, but I am thankful that I did. The whole evening was fantastic....from the food to the service. We were greeted when we entered by the owner/chef, who was very cordial and welcoming. After ordering, he asked if any of us had a dislike for mushrooms, as that was the primary ingredient in the amuse-bouche he was planning to bring to the table. I told him that my 11-year old daughter did not care for them, figuring that he would just not bring her the amuse-bouche. Rather than not serve her, he brought her toast with foie gras. While my daughter is not a huge foie gras fan, she ate it without much complaint. I have no idea what else was in the amuse bouche that he brought us, but It was so good! It was beautifully served in demi-tasse cups. Our meal continued with two fantastic entrées....the first was a soft boiled egg that had been rolled in breadcrumbs and lightly fried, served over a bed of mushrooms. Wow! What a combination! The French description was much nicer than the way I just described it...oeuf mollet is what I think the dish is called. Scrumptious! The second entrée was ravioli stuffed with escargot and walnuts (I think). Again, wonderful flavours....such unusual ingredients to find in ravioli. For the main course, two of us ordered the lamb shoulder that had been cooking for 7 hours with fresh thyme and served with white beans and toast. Delicious! The lamb was very tender. My husband ordered a whole sea bass, which he thoroughly enjoyed. My daughter had the butcher's cut, which happened to be entrecôte tonight, and she said it was delicious. My son's girlfriend had the duck which came two ways, magret and in a sort of egg roll, accompanied by puréed carrots which she said were better than any carrots she had ever had. Her duck was so tender and perfectly cooked. For dessert, my son and his girlfriend shared the millefeuille with pear, which they had no problem polishing off! I had a gourmet coffee, which had four desserts along with an espresso. It was a perfect way to finish off the meal. But this is the most unbelievable and special part about the meal. I asked the chef if he had anything chocolate for our 11-year old, as she was not wild about any of the dessert offerings. I was really just hoping that maybe they might have some chocolate ice cream in the back freezer. He said that he would come up with something. When he brought her dessert to the table, he had put together a dessert for her that was perfect. You should have seen the smile on her face when he poured the chocolate sauce over the vanilla ice cream and crushed specaloos. What a wonderful evening!PS - The next morning, my husband realised that he must have left his hat at the restaurant. We stopped by the restaurant the next morning around 11:00. They had his hat on the coat stand, and immediately brought it to us when they saw us at the door. :-)
