Le Grand Cafe - Ax-les-Thermes

Found this place by chance before heading for the thermal baths. Very busy at lunchtimes but the food is good and not too expensive. Expect to wait for your food! Staff were working hard but slightly cold to us as paying customers.

Situated in the middle of town with both inside and outside eating. Caters for big parties but you would need to book and be on time Good food with great service The burgers sold out early when we visited

Every time I come to Ax (3 or 4 times a year)a visit or two to LeGrand Cafe is an absolute must! The food is good, but what makes this place exceptional is Nelson and all his staff. Great people, great service and such a welcoming feeling every time and fantastic food and drink too at a good price. My fave place x

Very busy Sunday lunch , staff so very smiling and helpful , if two people go only order one plate as the portion are for giants If overweigh you will have problems getting to your table as they are squeezed so close together , too close in fact as people passing knock into you Great pity that someone does not spend some money and smarten this place up , could be very good , but everything looks worn out and grubby , I am sad to say .!!!!!

Conveniently located of the central square. Large room with full height windows on two sides. Bright and well lit. Surly waiters who feigned to speak no English led us down the path of ordering the fish-of-the-day, a whole cuttlefish. So much for Franko-American relationship. Fortunately my wife ordered a different fish fillet, generously sized, which we shared The ratatouille on both plates was excellent. I guess we feigned-that-we-spoke-no-French very convincingly, because it worked. Damned Yankees. We'd go again, but not without our English/French dictionary.

This is a reliable stop over if you are hungry but it is not fine dining.Everyone was content with their orders and the staff did their best in friendly fashion.Pizza can be combined with pasta so you don't have too much of one thing.Good also for vegetarians with a large menu and still serving when others closed their kitchens at 9 pm.

On the way to travelling to Andorra we stopped here for lunch. There were lots of locals eating and it was packed. Slightly surly serving staff who were very busy. We got there latish and so the main dish on the good value prix fixe was off but the pork chop was good. Didn't have a pudding not least as there were loads of flies buzzing around the dessert counter. Fine.

This cafe in the center of town is worth visiting for the atmosphere. It's busy and cheerful, pleasant inside and out in the garden or yard. Portions are substantial and look quite good. I had a pizza which was enormous but mediocre. I suffered from envy of those at other tables who had selected better choices. The service is slow and unprofessional, but the staff are pleasant, if in need of training. Prices are reasonable.
