La Guinguette des Ecluses - Amfreville-sous-les-Monts

We went to Andelys for lunch on the bank holiday and our intended restaurant was full, so we went on to this restaurant. We arrived at 13:00 and got a table, but the service was already slow. The food was mediocre and the price was extortionate for the quality and amount provided.

Was a little worried when we turned up here as it was very quiet apart from a small group of locals having a drink. We were politely sat down though at a table and given menus.Upon placing our order the ice was broken somewhat as we struggled, in typical British fashion, to order our food in broken French.The staff turned out to be very friendly and eager to make us welcome. The menu was much smaller than everywhere else we had been, however when our food arrived it was cooked to perfection. It is clearly better to offer less but do it well.Simple, unfussy but delicious food.

We literally lucked out by arriving around 13:00; the sun was out; the tables outside were not yet all taken and the boats were coming and going along the canal waiting for the locks to open and close. Our waitress was smiling and served us as rapidly as she could with a lot of customers to deal with. It was a Thursday mid-day. There were 3 coach loads of folks inside for their lunch and most were also dancing. This is a "guinguette".... and it was so fun to watch. Steak tartare for my partner and I had the beef stew dish with a house red wine and then creme brulee. It was the right time, the right place, the right weather, the right location for a very pleasant lunch. Delightful setting by the locks = "ecluses" and you can get there by car, coach or bike.

Très déçu de cette guinguette. Pour 35€ zéro repas. Les aînés ne reviendront jamais aux toilettes sales.
