My wife and I needed to spend a January Monday night in Alençon in advance we checked tripadvisor and selected Le Hangar. When we arrived at 8.00pm we were warmly welcomed apparently one of the few online bookings. We appeared to be the only diners but were soon joined by a number of others.I had mushrooms stuffed with snails followed by a generous serving of kidneys in a creamy sauce with mashed potatoes. My wife had a calamari cassoulet followed by chicken. We drank a bottle of Rasteau which at mid €20 price was at the upper price end of the wine. We both enjoyed our meals again and would happily eat again at this modestly priced restaurant, we paid €60.

From the outside, the Hanger looks as though it should be serving chilli or burritos - it has a distinctly Mexican look about it - firey oranges and red paintwork. It is surprising then to find a semi outside area - great for the summer and and interior decorated with old vinyl records and having a distinctly retro feel. The service is extremely pleasant and quick, the friendly atmosphere permeates the whole area, there is music playing but not too loud. The tables are set well the areas are clean and without too much clutter. The menu changes each week, so there is always something to look forward to! Our meat was good but the main meat of the meal was undercooked for our tastes. The rest of the meal, the starter and pudding we great. The vegetables and sauces were very tasty and completely surprising - we were not expecting such a level of expertise by the Chef! It was a good meal served well in a friendly and convivial atmosphere. A surprising and lovely experience.

Found this by chance and it's a gem. Lovely ambience and busy both with tourists and locals. Great food, sensible prices and friendly service. Suggest booking if you go with a large group.

We were recommended this restaurant by our B&B (see La Basse Cour)as one of the best of the relatively few in Alencon open on a Monday evening. It's a couple of hundred yards from the centre but not difficult to find; given the size of the portions we were happy to have a walk back to our car afterwards. The restaurant is is down an entrance-way with a small courtyard that, at first, didn't seem so inviting, and a good sized interior. We were almost the first people there at around 8pm and wondered if we'd made the wrong choice, but the place soon filled and the character of the courtyard improved! It's clearly popular with locals and, once we had the food, we understood why - loved it all and only wished we'd had the appetite to do justice to 3 courses. It's not cheap, but nor is it very expensive, and we certainly thought it was good value for money. And I forgot to say that the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We'll happily return if we're in Alencon again.

We found this restaurant on our way back from SW France. And what a find! The food is delicious and the staff so friendly and helpful. Allencon is a great place to stop over and Lewis Hangar a great place for a meal.

I am traveling with friends to attend the 24 hour of Le Mans car race. We are staying in Alencon. A cute town near the race. We stumbled across the restaurant and we love the food and the staff are amazing.

I can't say enough how much I appreciate Caterina's help in choosing a meal that would suit my huge allergy intolerance. I also hugely appreciate the chef's flexibility to perfectly execute my choice. We stopped in Aleçon for a one night stay on our way to southern France and chose to eat at Le Hangar. What an excellent choice we made and since we were so well treated we decided to make our return one night stay in the same town and dine at the same restaurant. The decor is cozy and rich with warm colour of reds and oranges. I hope to go back, explore more of Aleçon and stop in at Le Hangar.

My wife and I went to this resto on a Wednesday night on our way to Biarritz. My wife suffers from many food intolerances and the owner Catherina and her chef were very good to make a special fish dish. I had an great slow cooked filet mignon and outstanding entree of shrimp, salad, capers, avocado on a filo type pastry. Very quaint resto and lovely staff
