We have eaten here on numerous occasions and have always found the food and ambiance superb, but unfortunately not on this occasion. The starters were bland (we think one of them was a pig trotter which was all fat and bone, totally inedible) whilst the mains were "ok", nothing to write home about, the veal was moribund, the tuna served rare but deathly cold with far too much ginger which over powered the fish. Unfortunately the new tenants above the restaurant were very loud with several rather dodgy looking individuals on the balcony smoking cigarettes hardly gave off the impression that The Baliverne is a high class establishment. Additionally children on bikes riding very close to the restaurant and bellowing to the tenants above didn't do anything for the atmosphere. When you are being charged 7-9 euros per starter and 12-20 euros per main (on the understanding in Pezenas you can have a two course meal for 15e), you have an expectation of something that wasn't delivered. We will give The Baliverne another chance of course, but will be hoping for some serious improvement. If the atmosphere and tenants (which are of course outside of their control) continues in this vein, I can see this restaurant going under which would be a real shame for Caux.
