Many years ago I drove around La presqu'île de Quiberon and couldn’t find anywhere to park, and I was determined to return one day. Being early in the year, we did manage to park at Port Maria and there was an air of excitement and busyness about the town as it prepared for Easter and the summer season. Many of the restaurants seemed to be a bit impersonal, but we finally came to the Bistrot du Port which was much more welcoming. The menu catered for all tastes, but it was not so extensive as to make you wonder how one person could do so much. Being lovers of fresh, local and seasonal products, it seemed to be the perfect choice, and we were not disappointed. The Boudin Noir served with pan-fried baby potatoes, caramalised apples & onions, and a little fresh salad of leaves & fresh apple, was delecate and tasty in the extreme. My ham & mushrooms in a Breton cider & cream sauce slipped down with great delight and it was all finished off with two Pannacottas with homemade orange confit. The balance of sharpness and sweetness in all the dishes was perfect, and they were cooked to perfection. Proprietress, Anne Roquet, was clear that our enjoyment was all down to her good ‘home cooking.’ Who are we to argue?
